The impurities produced by different crude oils are different, and different refining methods are needed in the refining process.

Generally speaking, the refining process of crude oil includes degumming, deacidification, decolorization, deoxidization, deodorization and dewaxing. When dealing with crude oil produced by different oil seeds, several methods are often chosen to refine crude oil to meet the standard of edible oil. The refining equipment is divided into batch refining and continuous refining according to the operation principle. The cost of batch refining equipment is lower, and the corresponding capacity is small, it is suitable for small refineries with daily capacity of less than 30 tons. The capacity of continuous refining equipment is much more large, and can handle up to 1000 tons per day.

Process economy:

Main Equipments

Degumming- neutralisation- washing & vacuum drying:

Chemical refining is subject to degumming, neutralization and washing process to remove hydratable, and non-hydratable phosphides, FFA, soap PPM and some coloring bodies from the oil. In this process oil is heated to the suitable de-gumming temperature and water as well phophoric acid is added for de-gumming. Subsequently diluted caustic is mixed with the oil to convert the FFA into soap. Gum and soap is subject to centrifugal separation. Lastly, oil is washed with hot water to remove the last traces of soap PPM.

Deacidification:

Crude oil contains a large number of FFA(free fatty acids), which will affect the stability and flavor of oil. FFA can be removed by adding alkali to neutralize, which is called deacidification, also known as alkali refining.

Bleaching:

During physical refining, pretreated oil and during chemical refining, neutral oil is subjected to the bleaching process. Pretreated / neutral oil contains yellow, green and red pigments. This is a physical absorption process where the oil is heated to the required bleaching temperature and then bleaching earth is added which absorb the coloring bodies. This oil passes through pressure leaf filters and then the polishing filter.

Deodorizing:

After degumming, deacidification and decolorization of crude oil, there are still special odors, a small amount of free fatty acids and aldehydes and ketones, which are the decomposition products of oxidation of some oils. Deodorization can remove these odors and make the taste of cooking oil more fragrant.

All kinds of oil seeds. For example, rice bran, corn germ, cottonseeds, peanut, sunflower, soybean, rapeseed, etc.
